Hungry, Hungry Rabbit

Hello all,

I hope this blog post finds you well.  Life has been a bit crazy in our household.  My husband is working on a project at work and they are approaching a deadline...so there is a mad rush to get things finished.  We are also wrapping our time at the lake.  It is time to close up and prepare for the snow.  Lastly, we are trying to get ready for a long awaited vacation next month.  I'm also working on getting my first Copic Color Along completed.   There are lots of things going on, but I'm excited to see the fruits of our labor.

I wonder how hard this little bunny had to work to get its paws on these apples?

Hello friends,

Today's card was inspired by a friend.  Her daughter loves pigs.  She has a birthday coming up and she ordered a custom phone case for her daughter as a gift.  You can see it here.  We picked out the pig image together.  I loved how the project turned out.  It just made me smile. It inspired me to use it for a card.

I airbrushed the sky, but the rest is colored with copics.

Butterfly Words

Happy Saturday,

I have a quick card for you today.  I made a bunch of these because they are fast, easy and cute.   It is hard to see in the photo but I used red ink to stamp text on the red card stock.  I used a butterfly die to cut out negative space out of the white card stock.   Then finished off with ribbon.

Happy Throw-Back Thursday,

I'm doing a little more catching up.   I love this card.  I made it about a year ago...but recently made a bunch more of them.   I love this ornate flower from Stampin Up (retired).   It is so beautiful.

This little Piggy-Phone Case

Hello all,

I'm having so much fun making these phone cases.   I love that each one is uniques and reflects the personality of the person receiving it.    As you might guess, the person who ordered this phone loves Pigs.   This little piggy put a smile on my face!

I'm taking orders for Christmas season.  If you know someone that would love a custom phone case send me a note and we can design one together.   Most phone cases are only $15.  I also can make ipad or tablet cases.   My email is chris@purplelakestamps.com

Follow Your Heart

Happy Throw-back Thursday,

An excuse to catch up, right?  I made this card way back in March, but it never made it on the blog.

This is a super simple card.  I love the idea of mixing textures, but still keeping the clean and simple look to the card.  It is hard to see in the photo, but the blue moon has wood grain texture in it.  I got this pattern by stamping on a embossing folder.  The bird is also stamped with script texture.

Ten Things You Should Know By Now

Hello all,

I have fun little project to share with you.  My family has been planning a surprise party for my Uncle's 60th birthday party for the last month.   We have been brainstorming ideas for fun gifts for him.  This was a bit last minute, but this what I came up with last week.   I put it in a frame so he could have a fun keepsake from his party.

After taking him out for a delicious dinner we gave him a series of "Gag" gifts, including a wig, stool softener, tennis balls for a walker, and a name badge that says "if found return to the nursing home". He has a great sense of humor and took it all in stride.  Don't worry we also gave him some nice gifts. It was a really nice to see all of my family.  Here are a few pictures of my Uncle.

When Life gives you Lemons...

Happy Friday,

We have all heard the expression... "When Life gives you Lemons...".  We all know what comes next right?  I might live under a rock, but I heard a new ending to this phrase...and I couldn't help making it into a card.

I created an ombre look for the background of the card by stamping the lemons off.  The ones at the bottom are dark and they get lighter as you move up the card.

I put glitter on the lemons on the tag.
The inside reads:

I hope this made you laugh.  I thought is was a fun twist on an old favorite.

An Excuse to Party

Hello friends,

Today is a day that is dreaded by children and celebrated by parents.  Today is the first day of school here in NY.   I'm so glad that I'm no longer part of that world.  I've been listening to my teacher friends talk about all the new stresses that they face for the year, in a job that already has too many.  If you have kids going to school. I encourage you to send the teacher a nice note/card.  I promise...he/she probably hasn't had much sleep or time to themselves all week.  I'm so thankful to be free of that.   So today I celebrate!

In full discloser, I got this card idea from another artist.  This stamp is actually meant to be for Valentine's Day.  I purchased the stamp last year and it has been waiting for February to roll around. She used the stamp to create a birthday card.  I loved the idea!  I inked her up and made my own version.

I airbrushed the background.   This can be kind of messy.  Blue ink got everywhere.  I need to find a better way to mask images for airbrushing.  The traditional way... didn't work here.
There are two ways to deal with this.
Option 1: clean up the image with a blender pen.
Option 2: stamp the image again, color her, cut her out then paste on top of airbrushed image.
Both work.
