Mermaid Magic

Hello again,

Okay, Okay... I couldn't do it.  If you know me, you know I had to ink up a mermaid.  She is not only one you will see this week.  It is a weakness.

This image is special to me.  Krista Smith drew this based on an idea I sent her.  I caught myself wondering one day if a mermaid and a fairy had a conversation, what would they talk about?  I still don't know the answer... but I bet it happy things.  Now that I think about it... do you think mermaids and unicorns have zoom (internet) meetings?

Poof!

Greetings my Magical Friends,

I was in the mood to shake things up a bit.  This fairy (whimsy stamps) come with some really cute sentiments.   I thought they would be a fun twist on a birthday card.   I added the sparks from her wand with a stencil.   I wish the camera captured the glitter and shine.    The inside of the card is pictured below.

Million Magic Wishes

Happy Monday,

I'm still using up some of the backgrounds I made.  I love the way the silhouette stamps look on the these distress ink backgrounds.   I can see this being addicting.

You Taste Good with Video

Happy Halloween!!

I'm looking forward to taking the little one out trick-or-treating tonight.   I'm sure there will be plenty of photos and I'll be sure to post a few.

I do have a dragon card to share with you.  I love the sentiment it is from Blue Knight Rubber stamps (the castle is from there too) .  I colored these up a while ago, but it never made it on the blog.  I think the blue dragon is my favorite, but I wanted to make a purple version too (photos below).

If you like to see how I colored this card, please click here.

Love Story

Hello all,

Love it in the air here Purple Lake Stamps.   Connor and I were invited to two weddings next month. They are both in the Philadelphia area...and the weirder part is they are the same weekend.  Talk about two birds with one stone....I'm so grateful that they are not at the same time.  This way we can attend both without missing a thing!

I made this for one of the weddings.  I'm not sure which one yet.  When I started I planned to use it for our friend's wedding, but since found out that they are having a beach theme.  I'm tempted to try to make a card that goes along with their theme.  Hmmm.... not sure yet.

I love the inside sentiment.  It is just perfect for wedding/anniversary cards.  I think card could be used for both occasions.

I played around with some color ideas for this card.  Wedding dresses are usually white, but I wanted to give it some interest.  I had a hard time picking a color to play with. A huge thank you to my Mom for her suggestions.  After some discussion, I went with pink.  What do you think?  What color would you have picked?

I also used my glitter pen to add some sparkle to her veil, tiara, ring and necklace.  There is also a little sparkle in the twine in the bow.   It is a soft sparkle. I didn't want it to draw away from the couple, but just add a little twinkle.

Growing an Old Friend

Hello Stamping Friends,

I have another challenging card to share with you.  This image has lots of detail.  It was a lot of fun to color and discover all small details hidden in this image.  My advice is if you are going to color this. Take your time.  If you get tired, take a break and come back to it.   You can do it... just take it slow.

On the inside, the card says " It takes a long time to Grow an Old Friend"

Rose Garden

Happy Monday!

I wanted to play with a new color combination.  We all have our favorite combos we grab when coloring.  Usually when want purple, I go right for the BV's.  I thought it was time to use some V's.  I really liked how they turned out.  They have a much richer feel to them.  I love the look!

Patience, Young Grasshopper

Hello friends,

This is the traditional time of the year for Upstate New York to experience the "Dog Days of Summer", but I don't think this is what they meant.  I sat down on a small little porch rocker to relax and take in a beautiful view.  It wasn't long before I found myself in this "Dog Pile".   I'm glad Connor was able to snap a picture.  The two lab mixes are ours.  The little dog belongs to my sister.

I'm still in love with fairies. I just never get tired of coloring them!  The have such a sweetness about them.

You're In My Thoughts

Happy Monday Friends,

I have a favorite to share with you today.  I really enjoyed making this card.  I'm not a huge fairy person, but the sweetness of some of these images just captures my heart.   What do you think?

I stamped the background with versamark to create a soft background.  It just adds a little texture and interest without distracting from the main image.
I drew in the ground and flowers that are at her feet.  You can do it!  Use tiny flicks for the grass.   It is just a series of dots for the flowers.
Don't be afraid to experiment with contrast and leave the edge of her dress white.

I colored the flower twice.  I cut one out and used a pop dot to raise it up.

Copics used:

Skin: E000, E00, E11, E21, R20
Pink: R20, R22, R35- I didn't get the contrast I was hoping for.. but I still liked the end result
Yellow: Y00, Y11, Y15, Y17
Hair: E99, YR24, E53, Y21,
Wings: B000, B00, B02- covered them in glitter

Dark Yellow: Y15, Y35, couple spots of brown E33
Grey: C3, C1,
Green: G46, G43, G40

A little Bit of Fairy Dust

Hello all,

I finally finished the video!!!  I'm slowly learning how to navigate the software.   It is a process...and I'm sure I'll master it at some point.   I hope to start making tutorials on a regular basis.  It is still a long process.  It took me 30 minutes to color the image and 13 hours to produce the video.  At the moment, it just isn't practical to do this for every card....yet!

Enough of logistics....on to the fun stuff.  Recently, I was asked to make some cards that would put a smile on your face.  This could go in lots of different directions...and of course is different for everyone.   I stumbled across this image of Fairy making some fairy dust.  It was so unique... I had to give her a try.

She has been making people laugh ever since.   If this is not your type of humor... just leave the "puff" off the card.  It looks like the fairy is tasting the icing on the cake.

Here is the video that I made of coloring.  Remember is you are looking at this post via email then the video won't work.  You need to visit the blog to play the video.

Copics used:
Skin: E000, E00, E11, E21, R20
Hair: E99, YR24, Y21, E50
Green: YG03, YG06, YG09
Blue: B91, B95
Yellow: Y11, Y15

I added some lines in her eyes with B97.

Double Trouble

Happy Hump Day!

We are making some progress around out house this week.  We used to have a pond in our backyard,  it sounds really nice but it just bread mosquitos and it took a lot of work to maintain. Last summer, we decided to tear it out.   Connor and I were able to dismantle all the pond parts and dig up the tarp that kept the water from seeping into the ground.  It left a deep hole in our backyard. The hole sat all last summer...winter...spring.... We were not excited about the work required to fill it in.  We broke down and ended up paying two eager, strong men to fill in the pond and garden in our backyard.  As of today, it is mostly full!!   We will need to get some top soil to level it off... but there is no longer a huge hole in our yard!   I love progress!

Speaking of progress.... I feel like I'm making some of my own.  I'm always trying to push myself to be a better artist.  I read, practice, read some more... practice... well you get the idea.  It never ends.  I'm always inspired by other artists and it pushes me to keep growing.  I saw this idea to use this fairy image, but crop her off the side of the card.  I thought it was adorable.  I had to try it.  I made two versions of it.

The pink is the easier version, the purple is more complex copic combos.  Which one do you like better?
