A Day that Sparkles

 Hello all,

I was hoping to make a video showing you how easy it was to make these cards.  When I read the sentiment foiling popped into my head.  I just got a bunch of new foils that I was dying to try out.

I used my computer to create a star pattern and printed it on both white and black cardstock.  I was so curious to see how this foil would look on the black.

I'm so so happy to report that it worked! On my first card I used rainbow foil.  It over foiled just a little but I think it looked like stardust.  It fit in perfectly.   My next two cards used gold holographic foil.  It is amazing how different it looks on white vs black.    The holographic quality is just so addictive. Sometimes the stars look gold others they have a rainbow sparkle. It is so addictive... I must foil all the things..

Happy Beerthday!

 Hey!

My cup runneth over. I'm pretty sure they didn't mean a beer glass, but hey work with what you got, right?   My scrap bins are always overflowing.  This technique is a great way to reduce the clutter while making some really unique card elements.

I sponged a bit of yellow ink on the bottom of the beer foam and put a little bit of wink of stella to make it sparkle.  I used foam tape to pop up the foam on the glass.  I adhered the glass to a 5x7 card base from Michaels.

Hen House

 Hello,

I have another silly card to share.  I love the look on this chicken's face.  She is up to something.  I hope this makes you smile!

I did add a button to my card. I think it adds to the farmhouse feel that I was going for.  However, I was worried that I might not be able to mail it for a regular stamp.  I changed up the design a little with a paper border.  This way you can either add the button or leave it off.  Depending on if you are going to hand deliver or mail the card.

Pee on it

Hello,

I'm playing a little catch up today on the blog.   This weekend is the Akron stamping convention.  I wanted to be sure I posted all the projects before class.   This is one of my favorites.  The expression on this puppy's face is perfect! I added a little puddle of pee for some extra laughs.   I hope this guy gives you a chuckle.

I've Been Naughty

 Hi!

Warning... this card is not for everyone.  I'm teaching a snarky class at Akron this weekend and this is one of our projects.   If you enjoy cards that with a little edge..then keep on scrolling.

One of the things I find challenging about "Snarky" cards is pairing sentiments with characters.  I picked this Santa because of his facial expression.  He looks like he is looking surprised when he is reading his list.  It is a challenge, but when you find that perfect pairing between character and sentiment it is so satisfying.

Getting Scrappy Akron Class 2023

Hello friends.

I make a lot of cards and my scrap bins are always overflowing.  This has become one of my favorite techniques to help cull down the bulk.  There are several different ways to incorporate this technique into your design.  I hope this class helps you see the possibilities.  Do you have a favorite?  I'd love to know!!

On each blog post you can find and detailed photos and links to video tutorials.

Key points from class:

1. Remember how you cut your scraps makes a huge difference.  Don't cut triangles.  Refer back to this video if you can't remember how to cut.

2. leave a small gap between each strip. It will help with the end look

3. Put a line of glue on your background paper using a fine tip glue bottle.  Bearly Art Glue- Amazon or Taylored Expressions--best glue ever! especially for small places!

4. Let glue dry before trimming off extras.

Technique Junkies- use code TJ10Chris to save 10%

Simply Stencils Akron Class 2023

 Hello friends.

Thank you so much for joining me for class today.  It was pleasure to meet you.   I love these quad stencils.  I love that you are making a set of coordinating cards to help refill your card box or to give them as a gift.    If you are loving them as much as I this one just released

1. Remember to fill in the four tiny boxes on the edge of the stencils for perfect alignment.   On some stencils it really matters and the only way to get good placement.

2. Remember to blend in circles and in both directions

3. When you are done blending trip 1/4 inch off each side of your paper.  Then cut at 4 inch and then at 5.25 inches.  You should end up with four panels.

4. When I finish my panels off into cards.  I personally like to keep them simple.  Look for places to anchor your sentiments, so they are not just floating.   I love using tags, or vellum circles to help the sentiment stand out from a busy background.

Sending A Smile Akron Class 2023

  Hello friends.

Thank you so much for joining me for class today.  It was pleasure to meet you.   Below is all the photos and links.  On each blog post you can find a list of copic colors (if you use them) and detailed photos.

The topic of paper was popular today.  Here is the link to the correct type of  paper.  Neenah makes several kinds of paper and it can be confusing.  This is the paper that I use to color with copics.  I also use it for pencils...but you plan to do a lot of layering you should invest in specialized paper.

The second question that I got asked what the cheapest place to buy copics.  Click here.

This is a good source for gamsol.

Key points from class:

Remember that you will probably have to modify your stamps to make it work.  I try to figure out where the natural break is in the stamp.  If it leaves a weird gap,  use a small stamp to balance your sentiment.

Design tip- try to make the outside of the card look innocent...so they are surprised when they see the inside.  I also try to keep the card simple.  Focus on the joke don't get distracted with other things.

Look for silly critters to compliment your snarky stamps.  They make it the easiest to make cards.

Great companies to look for snarky stamps are

1. Technique Junkies- use code TJ10Chris to save 10%
2. Art Impressions - Girlfriend line is hilarious
4. Ink Road- great company but takes about 8-12 weeks to get stamps
5. Stamping Bella- oddballs are great for characters.
6. Whimsy Stamps- great mix of serious and goofy stamps

Spring Flowers

 Hello all,

I'm a bit farther behind in blogging than normal.  I hope to catch up here in the next week or so.  This card is one perfect for this time of year.  it is so SPRINGY!   I stamped the background image in light blue onto light blue paper.  Then inked up the word SPRING in dark blue and stamped it on top of the light blue.   Stamp positioners make magic happen!     I used Flower Dies to die cut paper from bright papers.   I used Bearly Art Glue:(detail glue) to assemble all of the pieces. To add a bit of sparkle I added glitter Gel Pens to the veins of the flowers.  This card shines!  I hope this inspires you to start making some Spring cards.

Oh My Sequins!

 Hello!

Years ago, I bought a bunch of sequins to use as embellishments on my cards.  I haven't used them in a long while and they are just collecting dust.  I wanted to see if I could find a creative way to incorporate them into the card and make them a focal point.    I used a rainbow die as a template/pattern because I was worried if I "winged it" I would make a mess of it.   I love how it turned out.

Dragonfly Dreams

 Hi!

In many parts of the world the dragonfly represents Hope, Change, and Love.   It is hard not to embrace all of those ideals.  For me personally, I always think of summer when I see dragonflies.  We have them on the lake.  I love to observe the colors.  The ones I see have blue/green iridescent color to them.  When I saw this stamp, I wanted to see if I could capture this look.

I used the Wow bonding powder to foil the dragonfly.  I fussy cut out the dragonfly and used dimensional foam to place it on top the image stamped on a gray panel.  I love the contrast between the foil and the neutral gray.  It really pops.   What do you think?
