Faux Carved Wood

 Hello,

Does this look cool?  I was playing around with some embossing techniques.  I have so many cool embossing folders, I want to make the most of it.   I was trying a technique called carved wood.   I did it wrong the first time and my flowers are embossed.  I made a second card where they are all debossed.   I think they both look great.   I'd love t hear what card you like better?

The Best Flower Technique

Greetings Friends,

It is winter..  Do you think that the words "winter" and "yuck" could possibly mean the same thing?   I'm so ready for the crocuses to pop up.    Since the groundhog seems to think we have a ways to go, I'll have to settle for this paper flowers.

I used one of my favorite techniques on this card.  I used a Taylored Expressions stencil to create this unique flower combo.  I thought it needed a little something to I jazzed it up with an embossing folder.  I love the texture that it gives.  It is so much fun to touch. Do you have a favorite trick to jazz up a stamped panel?

Such a Croc

Hello,

Today is another make off my wishlist.  Whimsy stamps makes these amazingly fun critter stamps that look like they are peeking into a scene.  They artist is able to give them such personality.  I love the whole series.  It was a challenge to find ways to have them pop in.   This is my first attempt.  I created this little fun fold to have this guy to deliver a special birthday message.

You Are Fierce

Hello!

I'm talking a little break from Halloween cards today.  This is an older set from Stampin up called Wild Cats.  I'm always been drawn to tigers.  There is just something magical about them.  I wasn't 100% sure about the art work in this set when it first came out.  I think it was actually in part because the sample in the catalog were made with some really (IMO) odd colors.  Once people started getting their hands on their stamp set and started creating with it, I was all in.  When they are in the natural colors I think they look stunning!  What do you think?

I have so many ideas for this stamp set, I can't wait to get it out again soon and try another idea.

Tie Dye Embossed Amsomeness

Hello,

I hope you are feeling Groovy today because we are going to make a faux tie dye background.   This was really easy to create.  We used our distress inks to create a rainbow.   I knew that I wanted to use this 3D embossing folder.  it had a mosaic pattern.  It is not centered.  The focal point is centered in the middle top third of the card.  When I did my sponging I kept this in mind.  I started my red where I thought the center would fall and had the color radiate out from that point.  I purposely didn't try to make the pattern perfect.  I didn't mind the unevenness .   Once the pattern was full of color, I ran it through the 3D embossing folder.  I wish the camera could pick up the texture on the camera.  It is really impressive.  To finish it off, I added black diamond dots to some of the arches on in the pattern.  I did my best to keep it fun and simple.  What do you think?  I hope you give it a try!

Cardinal with Bow

Using one of my favorite techniques again... .  I rubbed white ink across an embossing folder.  It covers it with a light frosting of ink.  It kind of looks like snow.   The little cardinal is from My Favorite Things.  He has a little buddy that I put on another card that I put on a card that I will share tomorrow.

Embossed White Flowers

Hello friends,

This might be my new favorite technique.  Okay it is old, but with the new 3D embossing folders it is new.  They add a ton more interest to this look than the old 2D folders.   It is super simple to do.  You first emboss a piece of card stock.  Then LIGHTLY drag a white (or whatever color you like) stamp pad over your embossing.  Just the highest raised levels will pick up the color just giving it a whole new look.
I finished this card off with a splash of florals.

Birthdays Fly By

Hello,

I love this card.  It is so simple, yet striking.  I'm afraid the photos don'g do it justice.   The background is a 3D Flower embossing folder.  There is so much dimension in this folder.  It is a WOW all on its own.  The hummingbird is die cut from white card stock.   I used distress inks to color the bird.  I intentionally picked colors that blended well together so I didn't have to worry about the colors getting muddy.

Once the ink was dry. I used my Wink of Stella pen to apply a coat of glitter to the bird.  It just sparkles.  I wasn't sure what I was going to do for a sentiment, but I had this foiled Happy Birthday floating around my desk and it just seemed to fit.   It was meant to be, right?

Another Scrap Buster... and pretty card!

Hello friends,

Do you have a ton of scraps that clogs your bins?  My desk and constantly covered in scraps of card stock that are left over from projects.   I love these smaller dies make use of this otherwise wasted paper.   In this case I wanted to remind can expand the use of your colors.   We often think of green when we think of stems... but look how awesome they look in shades of blue.   I accented the card with a wax seal that was a mix of blue and pink.   The center of the flowers are diamond dots.

Pet Sympathy

 Hello,

No one likes making sympathy cards, but sadly we all need them.   I really liked that I could switch the animal on the cloud to make it more personal.  The sentiments all came from a MFT sentiment set.   The cards are pretty simple, but they are heartfelt.

I originally made these cards in November of 2022. I've made remade them a few times to have them on hand.

Experimenting with Texture

 Hello friends,

It is a constant battle to add texture to cards, but not to much that we have to pay extra postage.  Today I wanted to experiment with two different methods.   For my first card I used a die to cut a stamped panel.  I used low profile foam to pop up each of the rays that are coming from the heart.  I love the way it breaks up the background stamp. It makes interest to what would have been an otherwise flat panel.

In my second example, I used and embossing folder to add texture to a stamped panel.  This didn't add as much dimension as die cutting the panel, but I think it still adds interest to an otherwise simple panel.

What is your favorite way to add dimension to your cards?

Life is Better...

Hello,

Life is better with a dog.  I can't imagine not having our puppies (picture below).  So when I saw this stamp, I couldn't wait to use it.  I used my tombow markers to color directly on the stamp, so I could get multiple colors.   I stamped on top of the artistic swipe stamp because I thought it looked like dog slobber.  What do you think?

Under the Moon (with tutorial)

 Hello all,

I have a love/hate relationship with embossing powder.  It can be challenging to get a clear image without flecks all over.  Well... What if you want the flecks?  Check out this technique where I turn the flecks into stars on my evening sky card. You can see the video here

Happy New Year

Hello!

Today I stepped (more of a creep than a leap) outside my comfort zone a little.  When I think Navy I usually think silver.   I've seen a lot of other card makers using gold with Navy.  I was inspired to give it try.  I have to say I LOVE it!  What do you think?  Do you have color hangups?

I hope you had a wonderful holiday.  We had a great visit with my family.  I wish we were able to see each other more.   It is hard when we are scattered across so many States.

Holiday Cards

 Hello friends.

The holiday season is creeping up on us.  I'm starting to chip at my holiday card list.  I have two really fun cards to share with you.   All the stamps are by Technique Junkies.   I'm loving the new sentiments.  The fonts are playful but still easy to read.    I hope these cards inspire you to get a start on your holiday cards.

I used a punch to create the Jingle Bells.  The tiny bows were a labor of love, but they were so worth it!

I don't make a lot of Hanukkah cards, but this menorah background looks so stunning heat embossed on the blue sparkle cardstock.  The camera doesn't really capture the sparkle... but you will have to trust me.

Field Flowers Three Ways

Hello friends!

Wildflowers are just pretty.  I think they are technically weeds, but yet they have this way of captivating us.  I was instantly in love with this stamp.   I wanted to try to make a masculine card with it.  Can flowers be masculine?  I'd love to hear what you think.

I wanted to try stamping on some patterned paper that I had in my stash.  I think I've had this for about 10 years.  I was so glad to see this paper finally get turned into a card!  Do you have that problem?
I used wood enamel dots on this one... Not sure how I feel about them.  I think I like the twine better.  What do you think?

Different Perspective

What's up? or down?   Gosh, I had a hard time deciding if my giraffe should pop in from the top, side or bottom of the card.  However, when I saw the sentiment I had to have him looking in from the top.  It was just perfect.   I plan to ink up the giraffe stamp in the sentiment set soon.  He is just begging for ink!

Materials:

Wave Background - very similar to the one I used

Promise and Peace

Good Morning,

One of my favorite times of day on the lake is sunset.  There is such calm that can be found at that time.   The chaos of the day seems to fade away.  The sky burst with colors and we are reminded how lucky we are to see such beauty.

I wanted the sentiment to be the main focus of this card.  I kept the rest simple.  I used a sunburst embossing folder to create the sunrays. I anchored the the front panel with strips of paper in complementary warm tones.
