Otterly Lost

Hello friends,

Otters are so cute!  I think it is their playful nature that captures our hearts.  The sister cards were so popular last month, I decided to do something similar this month.  I made two cards using the same materials.  Today I'm sharing the first card.  I hope you will come by Friday to see the second one. We use two different watercolor techniques to create the oceans.

It was really neat to see how everyone's card turned out in class.  Each ocean was a little different.

Sunshine Mermaid

Greetings stampers!

It is no secret that I love mermaids.  I not-so-secretly would love to be one.  I can't be sure, but I think this is a little boy mermaid.  It was so unique.  I couldn't resist.

I Love Tulips

Welcome,

Mother Nature has reminded us that she is in charge this week.  We were getting spoiled with the Spring-like days.   Hopefully this will be the last of the snow and we will see some tulips soon.

This stamp set is ancient.  It was one of the first ones I purchased when I started stamping.  It was way ahead of its time with layering.

No copics today

Programed to Party

Hello friends,

New York state (and much of the East Coast) has been slammed with snow.   I know many are upset about all the snow, but being snowed in has it upside.  I was able to clear some time in my schedule to get more coloring done!  Yeah!!!

Today's card was done by request.  Monochromatic cards are popular at the moment.  I had never done a "true" monochromatic card before.  I usually cheat by adding in one other color.  I love the way it pops against the grays or browns.    I like how this card turned out, but in truth... if I were to color it again. I would make the balloon red.  I guess I'm not cut out for single color thing.

I put this little guy on the inside of the card.

Top O'the Morning to You,

Shamrocks are so happy.  I used a really bright green to color these in.  I love the energy it brings to the card.  It will certainly brighten someone's day.

Cupcake Fairy Video Tutorial Copic Class

Welcome!

I'm so excited to share with you the third installment in a series of Copic Tutorial classes.   If you want to see the House Mouse class click here.   I recently taught a Copic class on how to make something appear translucent.   My students asked me to make this video so they watch me color this image from start to finish.   This video does cover how to make an object look translucent, but we will spent a lot of time talking about contrast.  We will use grays/blacks to deepen shadows to create a more dramatic look.   Please send me a note if you have any questions.

Hey Gill Friend

Welcome,

I know it is only February, but I'm starting to dream about summer.   I started going through some of my summer images and this one caught my attention.  I love coloring mermaids because you can break all the rules.  When else can you color blue hair without raising some eyebrows?

This image turned out to be a little more challenging than I originally thought.  I had a hard time getting the shadows to look right on the skin. I'm also a little out of practice on hair.  I tried a couple different things and this is what looked the best.  I almost didn't post this... but then I thought that would be pretty hypocritical.  I always tell my students.. that each image we color teaches us something.   I love the shadows on the rock and her hairpiece.   I hope to revisit this again and keep improving.

Risk the Cooties

Greetings,

This past month I had the privilege of teaching an advanced copic class.  We we learning how make objects look translucent.   I wanted to hunt down some new practice images.  This one worked perfectly.   Be sure to check out Monday's post for another image from our Copic class.

I couldn't resist making this a tent card.   I love that this will sit up on someone's desk for them to enjoy.   I stamped some lemons on the inside in a light yellow color.  This way you can still write a message on top of them.
