Rain Makes Room

Hello,

It has been a rainy June around here.  I hope that the sun can push through the cloud soon.   The temperature of the water is much colder than normal as a result.    This bird (from Unity) makes me forget about that.  He is just so sweet.  I love that he has arms to hold the umbrella.     I don't know if you can see in the photo but the background is embossed with tiny raindrops.    I freehanded cut the sentiment.  Not sure if I like it or not.   What do you think?

Mine! Mine! Mine!

Did someone say cake?

Seagulls (well at least cartoon ones) have such personality.   My favorite seagull is Scuttle from the Little Mermaid.  He gets everything wrong, but he is so lovable.   These guys are more of the Little Nemo variety where they are scavenging for food.  Mine! Mine! Mine!

To make the sand I sponged kraft card stock with various shades of brown ink then used a stamp that was just a bunch of dots to stamps brown ink on top to add texture.  It worked really well.  I hope you feel inspired.  Have a Gull-Tastic Day!

Birthdays Fly By

Hello,

I love this card.  It is so simple, yet striking.  I'm afraid the photos don'g do it justice.   The background is a 3D Flower embossing folder.  There is so much dimension in this folder.  It is a WOW all on its own.  The hummingbird is die cut from white card stock.   I used distress inks to color the bird.  I intentionally picked colors that blended well together so I didn't have to worry about the colors getting muddy.

Once the ink was dry. I used my Wink of Stella pen to apply a coat of glitter to the bird.  It just sparkles.  I wasn't sure what I was going to do for a sentiment, but I had this foiled Happy Birthday floating around my desk and it just seemed to fit.   It was meant to be, right?

Flamazing

Hi!
It seems like each summer an a new animal becomes trendy.   We've done sloths, penguins, hedgehogs, and this year it seems to be the flamingo.   Don't get me wrong, I love it.  I love seeing all the new products and creations.  It is like a celebration of that animal.  As far as I'm concerned let's make it official.  🦩🦩🦩.

Technique Junkies is not to miss out on a trend and they have released some Flamazing Flamingo stamps of their own.   I love the sentiment because it could be used for anything.  It could be a birthday or just a general greeting on its down.  It is so versatile and I think it will get a workout in my craft room this season.

To create the backgrounds I used Nuvo Pigment Powder.   This powder is highly pigmented powder that reacts with water.   There is a couple of ways you can use this powder, but my favorite is to sprinkle just a tiny (I stress tiny) bit of powder onto watercolor paper.  Then spray the paper with water.  You can move the paper around to move the pigment on the paper.   It isn't an exact science... but I love that you can an organic background instead of a controlled piece.     I used Spellbinders Flamingo die on the blue piece and the stamped the Flamingos on the pink.   I love them both.

Regular or Decaf?

 Welcome,

This is one of the cards that I will be teaching at Akron 2022.  My favorite part of this card is the spilled coffee background.  I used four colors of distress oxide ink to create the coffee look.  I made a similar card a few years ago.  You can click here to see how I did it.

All the materials are linked below:

If I were to make this card again, I would put the punchline- :Honey it's Monday...Don't even play.. on the inside of the card.  I think it would add to the joke.

You can see how I made this card here.

Chubby Snowman

 Welcome,

This snowman must have been in quarantine for a long time.  He definitely gained the covid--19lbs.   Personally I love chubby snowman.  It just makes him more adorable.

I used my colored pencils to color this card.  I love the way the white colored pencil pops off the darker cardstock.   I think you could use any brand of pencils to do this.  However, for about $2.50 (less if you use a coupon) at Michaels/Joannes you can buy a prismacolor white pencil.   In my opinion, it gives the best creamy white results.  It is a nice thing to have in your stash.

 Greetings,

Red Bird

Greetings,

I think sympathy cards are some of the hardest to make.   I try to keep the card simple so that the focus is on the sentiment.   I used this new set from Altenew.  You can see it here .   This is becoming one of my new favorite sets. I use it to create soft backgrounds for my characters to stand in or infront of.

On this card I used a really old bird from SU.  It has long been retired.  I did find a similar one and it is linked below.  I used a black and white gel pen to add some details to the bird. There is a close up below.

Leaves used:  Altenew

Flower Perch- in copic-- video included

Hello,

My crafty friend Lisa and I were chatting the other day about how different stamps can look different depending on how you color.  We thought it would be a fun idea to see how each approached a stamped image.   We picked Penny Black's Flower Perch.

We picked the image because we thought it would look amazing in both watercolor (she is awesome with watercolor) and copic.   Other than that we didn't have a plan.  Here is how my card turned out.  Click here to go to Lisa's watercolor post.   Please be sure to leave her a comment and tell her hello!

Here is the video I made showing my process:
(If you are in your email the video won't play. You need to go to youtube or my blog)

Okay...so I made two of them.  Practice. Practice Practice.
Copics are listed in the video.

Yikes! and BlueBird Buddies

Hello friends,

It has been far too long since I've sat down and shared some cards ideas with you.  This fall/holiday season has been crazy busy.   Last year I did 4 craft shows, this year I signed up to do 10.  It was ambitious but I'm glad I did it.  I learned a lot.  I met a lot of really nice people.  It kept me really busy making cards.

I'm looking forward to having my weekends back and getting back on more of a regular schedule.  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.

I want to sneak in a few Christmas cards before the New Year.   This is what we were busy making in class just before Christmas.
