You're My Type

Hello,

I have another fairly fast Valentine's Day card.  My hope this time was to create a masculine card.  I thought I would try something with a vintage feel.  Something that I don't do very often...or well.
I used an old typewriter stamp.  It didn't stamp perfectly on the white card stock, but I liked the weathered look it created.

I like this card.  I wonder if I made another one if I would sponge some ink on the edges to add a more aged feel. What do you think?

I'm Sweet on You

Happy Monday,

I know that not everyone is loves these long legged beauties, but theres is something about them draws me in.  I love this card!   Her long limbs are hard to color.  I still want to have all the layers of color...but in a tiny little space.  It is a fun challenge.   I think each one is better than the last one I colored...that is all I can ask.

Copics used:
Light Pink: RV52, RV55, RV66
Dark Pink: RV63, RV66, R69
Vanilla: this was tough. I used E50, E40, W1 and blender pen. I had to play with this a bit so it wouldn't look dirty.
Blue: BG10, BG13, BG15, BG18
Skin: E000, E00, E11, E13, R20
Silver: C5, C3, C1,
Purple: BV13, BV02
Hair: Y21, E50, E53, E25
Grass: random greens
I used a multi-liner to add some details to the ice cream cone.
I just realized that I forgot to color the flower in her hair.  LOL..
I thought about putting glitter on her dress or maybe the ice cream.  I couldn't decide so I left it off...for now.

Growing Pains

Hello all,

I don't have a card for you today, but I share a glimpse into my learning process.  I love a challenge...and I'm constantly trying to push myself to become a better teacher, artist, and person.   In class, I hear the frustrations of my students who are working through a skill/project they find challenging.   I thought that I should share some of my frustrations.  You are not alone.  We all have Growing Pains.

One of the things I have been practicing lately is fabric.  I find it very difficult to get the shadows in the right place.  Some images are easier to color than others.  Some artists give hints and other do not.  It has been a process to learn to "read" the stamps.    To add to the challenge, you have to have good control over the marker tip to get the detail that I want.  I'm getting there... but it doesn't happen overnight.

So here is a little insight into my learning process....

It all comes down to practice...and more practice... and I imagine there is more in my future.  One way I practice is to color the same image more than once.  I know some people only like to color an image once...and be done with it.  How can you learn if you only do something once?  You wouldn't play a song on the piano once and then say okay I've learned enough.  I also try to color them close together so everything is fresh in my mind.

There are things about each of these images I like and dislike.  I changed a few details along the way to see what worked better.  For example, I like the eyes in a darker blue.   I keep most of the colors the same, but you can see that it didn't always result in the same look.   It is really hard to be consistent with pressure and amount of color that you applying to the paper.  I think this is normal... but also something to take into consideration when you are planning projects.

Lastly... don't give up.  This is actually my second attempt.
This crap happens to everyone. Sometimes you can recover from it...and sometimes you have to toss this into the garbage and start again.   Check out her eyes in this one..they are my favorite.

I hope to color this one more time and that will be the one I turn into a card.  I know time is always a limiting factor.  It took me 2 hours to color each image.   However,  think of how much you learn in that 2 hours.   I'm one step closer to understanding fabric and shadows.   In my opinion, it is worth the time.   If 2 hours seem daunting... pick an easier image.  You can control how long a project takes you!

I hope this helps you understand a little bit about my learning process.  You are not alone.  I get frustrated and set backs.  My markers spit up on my paper too.  It is just that these images usually stay on my craft table.  They don't make it onto a finished card and to the classroom.  Don't give up!  We are all in different places in our Copic Journey, but we are in it together.

Happy Crafting friends,
Chris

Raining Hugs and Kisses

Happy Wednesday,

I have been working hard on Valentine's Day cards.  There are lots of cute images that I can't wait to ink up.  This card is part of the Card Lover's Class in January.   This is one of my favorite in the series.    I think this card would also work for a baby or bridal shower.  I could just change up the colors and sentiment.  I think I'm going to give it a try.

Have a creative day!
Chris

The Valentine Buzz

Happy Monday,

I hope you stopped by to see what all the BUZZ is about.  These bee's are happy to celebrate Valentine's day with you.

Connor (hubby) helped me create this card.  I had the idea to create a honeycomb pattern, but the dye I had wasn't cutting it.  Connor and I created a pattern together and somehow he magically got the Silhouette machine to cut it out the pattern.  AWESOME!!

The rest I pieced together from a random stamps sets I had.

A Walk in the Clouds

Welcome Stampers,

Happy Saturday!  This week was a bit of a blur.  I managed to catch some bug going around town.  I feel like a magnet for bacteria this winter.  Thankfully it is over.  On to the fun stuff....

I hadn't used any of my Magnolia stamps in a while and I was eager to ink one up.  I chose a a little girl blowing kisses and cloud stamp.  I masked off Tilda so it looks like she is sitting on the cloud.

When I think clouds and sky, blue is the first thing that comes to mind.  I wanted to do something a little different.  PINK!  I used a die cut as a stencil and sponged ink over the edge to create cloud background.  It was a lot of fun to do.  I like the way this technique turned out.

Copics used:

Pink: R81, R83, R85
Grey: W3, W1
Skin: E000, E00, E11, E13, R20

Hair: E40, E41, E43, E44, E47
Yellow: Y11, Y13
Orange: YR12
Green: YG13, YG17
I put a little glitter on the heart kisses.

Cute Snowblower

Happy Monday,

It has been really cold here in NY.  Each morning we wake up to a fresh coat of snow on top of everything.  My Facebook feed has been full of silly stories of my friends shoveling the driveways.  It inspired me to color up this cutie.

Wouldn't having a pet elephant be awesome?

Episode of Hoarders

Happy Saturday!

I hope this bring a little joy to your Saturday morning.  Willett, our yellow lab-mix, has a new hobby.  She goes around and collects all of dog toys and puts them in her "house".  I think this might be so her sister can't play with them.    If this continues, we might need to call the producers of the TV show "Hoarders" to schedule an intervention.

Once I'm finished laughing... I'll start working on some cards. LOL...

You Make Me Laugh

Hello all,

I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things.  Connor (hubby) had a few days off from work.  It was nice to have him home.  He rarely takes time off of work, so I tried to enjoy every second of it. We watched movies, went out to eat, shopping, and even finished a few house related projects.  Nothing overly exciting...but it was nice to have some time together.

Monday, I met again with my copic group. It was really nice to see all of them.  We had a good time coloring up some new images and sharing stories from the holiday.   Here is one of the cards we made on Monday.

She is more difficult to color than she looks.  It was a nice challenge to start the year off with.

Saying Goodbye to 2014

Happy New Year!

It is hard to believe that we 2014 has come to an end.  On New Year's Day it is tradition to look back at our accomplishments and set goals for the next year.  We had another year full of stamping.  I'm so proud of all my students.   I love seeing your projects and skills grow.  It is a blessing to be a part of your creative journey.   I'm looking forward to another exciting year of stamping and learning. I've already scouted out a few classes I hope to attend.  I also hope to make another mini-copic class to help students refine copic skills.

In 2015,  I hope to spend a little more time on some of my personal projects.   My resolution is make one scrapbook page a month.  Are there any other scrappers out there?   I love to scrapbook, but I have been so focused on cards that I haven't made the time to preserve memories.   This is doable right?  At the moment, it seems a little overwhelming. Where do I start?  There are mounds of pictures to choose from.  AAAHHHhhh.... I might need some therapy.

While I create a plan... enjoy a look back on my favorite cards of 2014 (no special order)
